In Rainbow Six Extraction, there are twelve distinct mission types, each with its own set of instructions for completing the goals. Whatever sort of operation you’re on, though, the same basic plan usually works best. While the game will constantly push you to identify and finish your goal as fast as possible, the optimal strategy is to do the opposite. To substantially boost your chances of success, follow the step-by-step strategy explained below.
Step 1: Sweep the Sub-Zone in a methodical manner.
Whatever your goal is, it will be much simpler to achieve if you first secure the majority, if not all, of the map. Sweeping around the map carefully and methodically allows you to eliminate Nests and roaming adversaries without raising the alert, as well as maintain track of which portions of the Sub-Zone are reasonably secure and which are “hot.” The Shutdown mission type is the lone exception to this rule. On Shutdown missions, you should go straight to the target marker, but do it in a calm, methodical manner.
On non-Shutdown operations, we like to circumnavigate the map by going around the outer perimeter. You won’t get bewildered or encircled this way. However, in certain Sub-Zones, it doesn’t function as well, therefore another option is to sweep back and forth in straight lines. Assume you’re a lawnmower, and the map represents a grass that has to be mowed in beautiful, clean stripes. Whatever route you choose, keep an eye on your map to ensure you know where you are and where you’re heading. There’s just one valid reason to deviate from your path, which leads us to Step 2.
Step 2: Destroy any nests that have been notified.
When sweeping, you should strive to maintain stealth at all times by keeping low and dealing with adversaries and Nests with Takedowns or single shots to weak locations. However, no one is flawless. When an Archie notices you, you may not be able to kill it before it screams, notifying all neighboring Nests. When this occurs, it’s critical to locate and destroy all of the notified Nests, even if it means deviating from your sweeping course. Always keep a mental note of where the Archie was when it howled, and do a thorough check of the area, seeking for alerted Nests. Because the Sprawl will be spreading across a large region, you’ll know there’s an alarmed Nest nearby. Be thorough since there might be three or four alarmed Nests to deal with. If you miss any, the enemies that continue to spawn will be a problem. This is how things get out of hand, and how missions go wrong.
Step 3 – Identify and secure ALL goals
While you’re not in a rush to reach your goal, sweeping will almost certainly lead you to it sooner or later. The game will urge you to try to fulfill your goal as soon as possible. This should not be done. Always protect the regions surrounding and between all targets with attention and precision. That entails killing stray opponents, destroying Nests, Blinding Spores, and Mines, and clearing passages through the Sprawl if required.
Rainbow Six Extraction for Beginners is a good place to start.
Find all three Seismic Stations, clear the regions surrounding them, and clear pathways between A and B, and B and C, for example, on a Triangulation mission. In Serial Scan tasks, you must clean the spaces surrounding the holograms as well. Make sure you clear a path between the goal and the Extraction Point on mission types that need you to carry anything to the Extraction Point. Clear regions surrounding both the Airlock and the Extraction Point so that you have escape routes if you need them on missions when alerting Archies is unavoidable.
Step 4: Completing your goal
If you’ve followed Steps 1-3 carefully, the next step should be simple. Some tasks, such as sabotage and hunting, are inherently dangerous, but even these are made much simpler when you’ve secured the region ahead of time and don’t have to worry about alerted Nests. Of course, no one can promise victory, but we can tell you that our success rate skyrocketed after we stopped adopting the straight, rushed approach and learned how to completely protect each Sub-Zone.
