Publisher and co-developer Dotemu (Boy Wonder: Dragon Trap, Windjammers 1 and 2) and co-developers Lizardcube (Boy Wonder: Dragon Trap) and Guard Crush Games (Streets of Rage) today announced that Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, the incomparable composers of the original Streets of Rage series, will join a star-studded cast to create all-new tracks for the Streets of Rage 4 soundtrack.

In a new video, published by Dotemu, Yuzo Koshiro and his colleague Motohiro Kawashima, composer of Streets of Fury, explain their goal in creating an impressive and memorable score for Streets of Fury 4. The band was filmed at the beginning of the year during the BitSummit and covers a range of topics, from channelling the club songs fans love to play in original games to creating sounds that cannot be heard on previous recordings.

The video reveals that Yuzo Koshiro and Ancient Studios offered a sequel to Streets of Fury at one point, and also frankly reveals some of the internal pressure that the original Streets of Fury team experienced during development when they were in direct competition with Capcom’s Street Fighter II, which Yoko Shimomura-san was developing at the time. The legendary Shinomura is revealed below, as she also brings her musical skills to the upcoming soundtrack.

With the help of the music label Brave Wave Productions, which shows the work of Japanese game musicians to the world, there will be original music to be heard in the streets of Rage 4:

  • Yuzo Koshiro (Rage Streets 1, 2 and 3, Ys I and II, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Revenge Shinobi, Shenmue I and II, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for 3DS and Wii U and Ultimate, ActRaiser 1 and 2, …).
  • Motohiro Kawashima (Streets of Fury 2 & 3, Shinobi II, Batman Returns, …).
  • Yoko Shimomura (Street Fighter II: World Warrior, Kingdom Hearts I, II and III, Super Mario RPG, Legend of Mana, Parasite Eve,…).
  • Hideki Naganuma (Jet Set Radio & Future, Super Monkey Ball, Sega Rally 2,…)
  • Keiji Yamagishi (Ninja Gaiden, Tekmo Cup, Captain Tsubasa…)

These names include some of the most legendary and memorable musical architects in the history of video games, according to Cyrille Imbert, executive producer of Streets of Fury 4. Since the game was first announced last fall, fans are wondering who will be involved in the soundtrack of the game, as it is an important part of the Streets of Rage games. We are delighted to confirm this line-up of world-class musical talent for Rage 4 Streets.

Streets of Rage 4 will be the first time in the main series in 25 years and marks the glorious return of Axel and Blaze to side-scrolling games. With sumptuous hand-drawn animations, new martial arts and new tracks from a team of great composers, Streets of Rage 4 will be a masterful tribute and a revival for fans of the classic action game.

More details and surprises about the streets of the Rage 4 soundtrack will be announced later.
