Publisher and co-developer Dotemu (Boy Wonder: Dragon Trap, Windjammers 1 and 2) and co-developers Lizardcube (Boy Wonder: Dragon Trap) and Guard Crush Games (Streets of Rage) announced today that Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, the incomparable composers of the original Streets of Rage series, will join a star-studded cast to create all-new tracks for the Streets of Rage 4 soundtrack.
In a new video published by Dotemu, Streets of Fury composer Yuzo Koshiro and his colleague Motohiro Kawashima explain their goal in creating an impressive and memorable score for Streets of Fury 4. Filmed at the beginning of the year during BitSummit, the tape covers a range of topics, from channeling the club songs fans love to play in original games to creating sounds not heard on previous recordings.
The video reveals that Yuzo Koshiro and Ancient Studios were at one point offering a sequel to Streets of Fury, and also frankly reveals some of the internal pressures the original Streets of Fury team faced during development, when they were in direct competition with Capcom’s Street Fighter II, which Yoko Shimomura was developing at the time. The legendary Shinomura is revealed below, as she also brings her musical skills to the next soundtrack.
With the help of the music label Brave Wave Productions, which showcases the work of Japanese game musicians to the world, original music will be heard on the streets of Rage 4:
- Yuzo Koshiro (Rage Streets 1, 2 and 3, Ys I and II, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Revenge Shinobi, Shenmue I and II, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for 3DS and Wii U and Ultimate, ActRaiser 1 and 2, …).
- Motohiro Kawashima (Streets of Fury 2 & 3, Shinobi II, Batman Returns, …).
- Yoko Shimomura (Street Fighter II: World Warrior, Kingdom Hearts I, II and III, Super Mario RPG, Legend of Mana, Parasite Eve,…).
- Hideki Naganuma (Jet Set Radio & Future, Super Monkey Ball, Sega Rally 2,…)
- Keiji Yamagishi (Ninja Gaiden, Tekmo Cup, Captain Tsubasa,…)
These names include some of the most legendary and memorable musical architects in video game history, according to Cyrille Imbert, executive producer of Streets of Fury 4. Since the game was first announced last fall, fans have been wondering who will be involved in the game’s soundtrack, as it is a staple of the Streets of Rage games. We are thrilled to confirm this lineup of world-class musical talent for Rage 4 Streets.
Streets of Rage 4 will be the first entry in the main series in 25 years and marks the glorious return of Axel and Blaze to side-scrolling games. With lush hand-drawn animations, new martial arts and new tracks from a team of great composers, Streets of Rage 4 will be a masterful tribute and revival for fans of the classic action game.
More details and surprises about the streets of Rage 4 soundtrack will be announced later.
